Dear G.W. Carver families,

I hope this letter finds you and your Eagle refreshed, recharged, and ready for another exciting year of learning, growth, and discovery! On behalf of Mrs. Ryan Thorne, Assistant Principal, and myself, we are thrilled to welcome you back to G.W. Carver Elementary School for the 2026–2027 school year.

Last year, our Eagle family accomplished so much together. Through the dedication of our students, staff, families, and community, we celebrated academic growth, strengthened relationships, and created opportunities for every child to succeed. Those accomplishments were more than milestones—they were the waves that have positioned us for an even brighter future.

This year's theme, "Making Waves; Creating a Tide of Success," reflects our commitment to building upon last year's momentum. Every lesson taught, every goal achieved, every act of kindness, and every partnership with our families creates a ripple effect that contributes to something much greater. Together, those waves become a powerful tide of success that lifts every member of our Eagle family.

As we begin this new school year, we have an exciting goal before us—to continue increasing student achievement and earn a "B" rating on the North Carolina School Report Card. This goal will require teamwork, determination, and a shared commitment to excellence, but we know it is within our reach because of the incredible students, educators, families, and community that make G.W. Carver such a special place.

We know that creating a tide of success takes all of us working together. Strong partnerships between school and home are essential to helping every child thrive. We encourage you to stay connected through our school website, Facebook page, ClassDojo, school events, and parent-teacher conferences. Your involvement and support make a tremendous difference in your child's educational journey.

Inside this handbook, you will find important information regarding school expectations, procedures, and resources for the upcoming year. We encourage you to review it carefully and refer to it throughout the school year.

Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. We are honored to be part of their journey and look forward to celebrating every accomplishment along the way.

Let's make this a year of meaningful growth, unforgettable memories, and remarkable achievements. Together, we will continue Making Waves and Creating a Tide of Success for every Eagle at G.W. Carver Elementary School.

Together, We Soar!

With Eagle pride,

Lindsay Palmer

Carver Family,

I look forward to serving you this academic year!

I grew up in New Bern, North Carolina and graduated from Duke University in 2016. Before joining the field of public education, I worked in art museums and institutions. In 2018, I joined Teach for America in order to give back to the Eastern North Carolina community that raised me. I served Edgecombe County Public Schools as a classroom teacher for four years, having taught middle grades general education at Phillips Middle School and special education at South Edgecombe Middle School, before joining the Carver community as the administrative intern last fall. I have completed a Master of Science in Education through Johns Hopkins University (2020) and a Master of School Administration through North Carolina State University (2023).  I have been part of the Carver community since the 2022-2023 academic year!

I believe in a possible future. I believe in a future in which every child, family, and staff member loves walking through the doors of the school. I believe in equipping our scholars with agency, the capacity to generate meaningful change in their lives and in the lives of others. I believe in educating all children through high-quality, effective, and rigorous instruction, equipping them with twenty-first century skills. I believe in supporting the whole child socially and emotionally through trauma-responsive practices and leadership development. I believe in supporting each professional in the building, coaching them in data-driven practices. I believe in equity, responding to the needs of the individual while holding high expectations for all. I believe in developing leaders, scholars and staff alike. I believe in forming coalitions between all invested constituents - students, staff, families, and the community at large - in order to foster citizens ready and willing to respond to the world’s most pressing matters. I believe in this possible future and I believe that we can achieve this at G. W. Carver.

SOAR HIGH!
