Mr. Thomas Holland
Mrs. Kristin Miller
Welcome back Carver Eagles
Welcome to G.W. Carver Elementary School and our Eagle family for the 2019-2020 school year. We are proud of our dedicated, experienced staff and all our enthusiastic learners. On behalf of Mrs. Miller, our Assistant Principal and myself, we are excited to welcome everyone back for the start of another great school year. This year our school theme is Let Your MIND-SET the stage for success!
A growth mindset is an underlying belief that your abilities can be developed and grow through effort and practice. When our children have a mindset for growth, they are persistent in the face of challenges because they understand that through hard work and focused effort they can improve. Understanding that we always have room to improve and that we are all capable of improvement through our efforts is vital for our personal growth. As parents, you have a lot of influence on helping your child develop a growth mindset and ensure that they don’t give up in the face of obstacles or challenges, that they value the process of learning and improvement, and that they feel comfortable making and learning from mistakes.
When we let our Mind-Set the stage for success, we are committing to working toward our goals and having the “Never Give Up” attitude that will allow us to reflect and learn from our failures and use them as we continue taking the small steps forward to success. Our students will continue to hear me say, “Be better today than you were yesterday, and better tomorrow than you were today,” This quote really captures the essence of a Growth Mindset and shows a commitment to personal growth, which is what we expect from all Carver Eagles.
Our staff looks forward to working closely with our parents to ensure all our learners can meet their full potential. Parents are our children’s first and most important teachers and we want you to be an active partner in our work to grow and educate our students. I encourage our parents to actively conversate with your child about what they have learned at school, ask them questions about their lessons, the class discussions they have had, and their opinions on articles or stories they have read. Communicate frequently with your child’s teachers and assist them in building the “Growth Mindset” in our students that will help them soar!
This agenda is an important communication and reference tool for parents, students, and teachers. Please use the inserted calendar and daily agenda to communicate with your child’s teacher about your child’s progress or any questions or concerns you may have. You can also feel free to contact the school to set up a conference with your child’s teacher regarding their academic and social progress. Other information in the agenda can help you familiarize yourself with school rules and regulations and you are encouraged to read it completely and refer to it if you have questions. Let’s have a great year and SOAR together!
